Why choose Tanzania for your honeymoon safari?
Tanzania is the ideal destination for your honeymoon safari! Exceptional wildlife in an untouched wilderness; idyllic camps and hidden lodges off the beaten track. And all of it is just a hop, skip and jump from pristine beaches and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. A perfect blend of adventure, relaxation and romance!
A big advantage compared to many other African destinations is that you can easily combine your honeymoon safari on Africa’s mainland with a coastal – or island getaway – holiday. You can reach Tanzania’s coastline and its beautiful islands within a day. Make the most of your precious honeymoon time: Avoid time-consuming cross-border travel which goes hand in hand with plane travel and overnight stays in the city.
Regardless of where you want to put the emphasis of your honeymoon, we can design the ideal itinerary through Tanzania. Contact us now to learn more.
When to go on a honeymoon safari in Tanzania?
Tanzania has a tropical climate. Expect an average temperature of 20 to 25 degrees Celsius throughout the year. You can visit Tanzania all year round but we advise against a honeymoon safari & beach holiday combination in April or May when extended rains could ruin the beach part of your vacation. Nevertheless, this time of year is quite lovely for a safari on the mainland – especially at Ngorongoro Crater, which will be colorful and in full bloom.
The best months to visit Tanzania are usually the dry season months of January/ February and June through October. However, you can still have a remarkable trip outside these months, avoiding large crowds and high season rates. There are pros and cons to each season.
Where to go and what to do on a honeymoon safari in Tanzania
Tanzania can generally be divided into two safari circuits. Firstly, the famous Northern Circuit with a great variety of wildlife, the Big Five inside the legendary Ngorongoro Crater and the renowned Serengeti National Park with its Great Migration. And secondly there is the off-the-beaten-track Southern Circuit with its lesser known, hidden gems. Selous Game Reserve boasts a riverine landscape, while Ruaha National Park is known for its many predators.
The Northern Circuit is perfect for newcomers to the safari scene and aficionados alike. Every day brings new wildlife encounters. A broad variety of accommodation options is available. Indeed, your honeymoon safari can be truly luxurious. The Northern Circuit is thus understandably popular and can get quite busy during the high season. Compared to the Southern Circuit it is pricier and the activities offered are restricted to game drives.
The Southern Circuit is ideal for safari enthusiasts and travelers looking for an adventure. Although accommodation options are limited and not as luxurious as in the North, the southern camps and lodges provide a more authentic and intimate safari experience. The Southern Circuit is still unspoiled by mass tourism – an ideal premise for your honeymoon safari. Moreover, a large variety of activity options is available, including boat safaris, fly-camping and walking safaris.
And, of course, you can always add bush breakfasts, candle-light dinners under the stars of Africa and sundowners to your itinerary. If you can’t decide whether to travel to the North or South for your honeymoon safari, you could consider combining action in Serengeti with romantic seclusion in Ruaha before starting your beach holiday. This has become possible thanks to a new direct flight. Get in touch with us for a first exchange of ideas.
And what about the beach on your honeymoon safari?
Tanzania is blessed with an endlessly long coastline of palm-fringed beaches and the Spice Island archipelago which includes the famous Zanzibar. For many honeymooners a mainland safari in combination with the white-sand beaches of Zanzibar Island makes for an ideal honeymoon.
We at Tanzania Safari Bug prefer small, boutique accommodations for your honeymoon beach holiday rather than large corporate hotels. A broad array of lodging options is available: From adventurous and rustic to very intimate and romantic – all the way to unbridled luxury.
If you are a keen diver and luxury accommodations are not your primary goal, then we would suggest a beach holiday on Mafia Island for your honeymoon. Mafia Island with its marine reserve offers amazing diving spots and a chance to swim with the mighty whale sharks! If you are looking for a castaway experience, then the private and rustic island of Fanjove could be something for you.
